We seek out and embrace growth and strive to continuously change, evolve and improve. When you join The Outdoors Group, you’ll be empowered to be your very best too, so get ready to aim high!

Our colleagues are a mixture of experienced Forest School Leaders, teachers, teaching assistants, administrators, estates people, marketers, support staff and specialists in a realm of different areas. Beautifully individual as they may all be, they are united by a love of the outdoors and a passion for using the natural environment to inspire, educate and nurture. There’s no one size fits all here at TOG and it takes a variety of people and skills to ensure that we continue to thrive.

WHY WORK FOR the outdoors group

When it comes to advocating TOG as a great place to work, we prefer to stand back and let our employees do the talking for us.

ways we support our staff to be their best selves at the outdoors group

Striking a healthy and sustainable work-life balance

We believe it’s important to make time for yourself, your leisure activities, connections and your work so that you feel fulfilled in all areas of life. That’s why we offer flexible and remote working wherever possible and are committed to supporting teachers so that when they finish for the day, they’re not taking any additional work home, but can relax and recharge.

Reimagining productivity

Gone are the days of micromanagement, instead here at TOG working relationships are based on trust, and productivity on quality output. We aim to give our staff as much autonomy in their work as possible, all the while our team leaders remain on hand to provide direction, clear roadblocks and support you in doing your best work.

Putting Welfare at the Forefront

Promoting and supporting employee wellbeing is at the heart of our commitment to build a positive and healthy workplace culture. We support staff in attaining a sustainable work-life balance, forming meaningful cross-company connections and in identifying areas for personal development. Of course, life can still pose a number of challenges and that’s when our wonderful Staff Welfare Officers are on hand to provide a listening ear and helpful advice. It’s our belief that when a culture is inclusive and supportive, people feel more able to be themselves, contribute meaningfully and proceed to thrive and reach their potential.

Dreaming big!

We like staff to be as innovative as possible when thinking about TOG and the services we offer, no matter what area of the company they’re situated in. We welcome suggestions on how we could improve things, and if an employee has a great idea for something

new or would like to share a project, process or initiative that they’ve recently discovered, then we love to hear about it!

Discovering your leadership voice

We help staff to uncover their ‘leadership voice’ using the GIATNT 5 Voices communication tool. This insightful tool helps our staff to build on their strengths, navigate communication gaps, success, and help one another grow. By understanding each other’s ‘voices’, we find we’re able to communicate more effectively, bring out the best in each other and produce some top-notch teamwork and amazing results!

Aiming high

As a company looking to break new ground it’s essential that our staff are able to adapt and grow with us. That’s why we take a personal interest in our employee’s career aspirations. By working together to identify development opportunities and ensuring staff feel positively challenged in their roles, we hope to take great strides forward together. Rest assured that if you put in the grind, there’s some fantastic rewards on offer, so always aim high!

Building connections

We’ve grown considerably over the years, but we’re keen to retain the informal, friendly approach to our relationships that drew so many of our early colleagues to the company. Whether it’s a debrief around the campfire, taking a meeting to a cafe or providing opportunities to collaborate, we try to create space so that friendships can really grow between colleagues.

Shaping the workplace

We want to hear what our staff have to say because we can’t help to solve problems that we don’t know about, we can’t provide support if we don’t know people are struggling, and we can’t join in celebrating successes unless we hear about them. This is why we make sure all employees are part of the conversation, working with us to drive change and shape the workplace that we all share.

 Having fun!

The age old saying ‘all work and no play’ is vastly outdated in our opinion. We’ve certainly had no shortage of fun over the years, from holding our own ‘TOGFest’, a weekend of camping, live music and laughs aplenty for staff and their families, to our infamous Christmas Do, taking our pints and pasties with us wherever we go each year! We’re excited for all the fun and frolics still to come but on a day-to-day basis we focus on working together to craft jobs we love so that Mondays are something we can all look forward to!
