Aimed at children over 6 years old, our Home Education Groups are a great opportunity for children to embark upon a programme of exciting forest school activities that develop practical skills, creativity, confidence and teamwork. Children are encouraged to make their own decisions and judgements and work together as part of a group in a relaxed, outdoor environment. Our experienced forest school leaders are on hand to guide children through a variety of activities and challenges but they also empower children to use their own ideas and, of course, give them the space and freedom to play.
Each of our Forest Schools has it’s own beautiful landscape and personality. Here’s what Home Ed looks like at each of our sites:
Our home-ed children take part in traditional forest school activities such as fire lighting, den building, woodworking, campfire cooking. They learn about tool usage and crafts, using the natural environment. The children will have opportunities to play team games to encourage co-operation and team spirit, to explore and play in the woodland and make new friendships within their peer group. Children are encouraged to come up with ideas for activities and take it in turns to deliver as leaders in the afternoon. This is a great opportunity to develop good listening and communication skills.

Our sessions give children the chance to thrive as part of a group in a relaxed environment, embarking upon challenges and games, learning new skills, developing socially and emotionally along the way. We encourage child-led play, allowing them to simply be in the woods with no pressure to fulfil any agenda other than their own. We feel this is as important a part of forest school as any other aspect.

Our newest forest school site at the Tiverton Adventure Playground opened in April 2018. We have several options for home educated children at Tiverton on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to attend either with or without their parents/carers, including a *NEW* tween/teen group starting in September 2018. Our sessions allow children and young people the freedom to explore and socialise in the great outdoors whilst also providing exciting and challenging Forest School and Bushcraft-based learning opportunities for them to get their teeth into!
