The Forest School at Escot

Exeter will always hold a special place in our hearts as it was the first Forest School that we opened, back in 2010

Manager Chris White had been working at the neighbouring Shillingford Organics when he started plotting with Tom Lowday and Shevek Pring on how they could offer outdoor education to the children of Exeter. After identifying the forest next to the farm as the perfect venue, they approached Martyn Bragg (owner of Shillingford) who kindly agreed to rent it to us.

And once they stepped foot in the woods, there was no turning back!

Chris, Tom and Shev took their passion for outdoor education and channelled it into our little patch of foresty heaven. We started with just Saturday clubs to gauge interest and since then, have continued to grow year on year as parents started to request that we offer a range of different activities from toddler clubs to home education provision.

Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the need for our school, The Outdoors School, to relocate, we had to close the doors for Exeter Forest School back in July 2020 – but not forever! Our team is busy searching for the perfect new home for our Exeter site and we will keep you updated as soon as we’ve found the perfect patch of woodland.

In the meantime, we continue to offer Home Education groups for children to attend from the September after their 5th birthday at our temporary site, Avanti Hall School.
