Tiverton Forest School

Join us in this peaceful pocket of Tiverton for term-time toddler groups and sessions for home educated children.

Term time outdoor learning and fun at the Tiverton Adventure Playground.

In January 2018, The Outdoors Group began running Forest School sessions at the charity-run Tiverton Adventure Playground, nestled in among the stunning Scots pine trees and a young birch and ash woodland. This peaceful pocket of Tiverton proved perfect for our woodland activities and we’re delighted to be welcomed by the charity and introducing Tiverton Forest School to the town this year.

Our team of experienced Forest School leaders set up the site and has been running various programmes with local school children for the past few months. As of Easter 2018, we’ll be opening the Forest School to the public, introducing our popular parent and toddler groups, as well as weekly sessions for home educated children.

Forest School aims to promote happy, healthy and confident children, and this is ideal place to get them excited by the outdoors, nurturing curiosity and social development through programmes that promote a child-led approach to learning.

Based in Cowley Moor, Tiverton Adventure Playground is an amazing charity that has provided recreational activities during the school holidays for many years. The Outdoors Group’s involvement means more children will benefit from this beautiful woodland setting, in the heart of Tiverton, all year round.

Meet our Tiverton Forest School Manager

Annie Milverton worked as a primary school teacher in Exeter for three years but soon discovered she preferred teaching outdoors to being in the classroom, encouraged by the rich opportunities for social and emotional development learning outside brings.

Annie completed her Level 3 Forest School Training with us and has been running sessions at our Exeter, Exmouth and Okehampton sites, developing her Forest School skills through Intervention Programmes and building on her Teaching and Psychology degrees.

There isn’t a day where I’m not excited to go to work in the woods. Seeing the impact our projects have on children is such a delight. I’m proud to be part of a great team which provides so many opportunities for our communities to engage in. Making Forest School accessible to more children has become my mission.
