Bala Brook Retreat Centre, South Brent
We all know that being outdoors is beneficial to our mind, body and soul. But sometimes, in this busy world, it’s hard to carve out some time to dedicate to ourselves. We’ve spent the last decade focusing on making outdoor education accessible to children around Devon but now it’s time to bring adults into that focus.
The use of digital devices throughout the weekend will be discouraged and there will be an option to leave them locked away to avoid temptation! There will be an opportunity for forest bathing, moorland walking, bush craft skills and free time each day for self-exploration and discovery. Vegetarian food will be provided for the whole weekend.
Join us at the beautiful Bala Brook retreat centre in South Devon, in the foothills of Dartmoor for a weekend of relaxation, yoga, delicious food and outdoor wellbeing this summer. Run by two of our experienced and friendly members of staff you’ll be able to tap into Katie’s incredible skill as a yoga teacher and Hannah’s passion for the outdoors. The group size will be kept small so that we can hold a space that allows you to unwind and recharge your batteries before returning to normal life.
The Yoga
Each Yoga session will be different and will include meditation, pranayama (breathing exercises), postures and relaxation. We will also explore Yin / Yang Yoga, Dynamic Flow Yoga and Yoga Nidra taught over 9 hours. All the sessions will be suitable for beginners and modifications and alternatives will be provided where necessary. Yoga is non-competitive and our classes are taught in an unpretentious and friendly atmosphere.
Bushcraft and Wilderness Activities
There will be some time each day to allow you to fully immerse yourself in nature and you will have the opportunity to take part in:
Food
Fresh, seasonal and locally produced vegetarian catering provided and served (dietary requirements will be catered for)
Your package will include brunch and main evening meal. Tea / Coffee, fresh fruit and homemade cakes will be available throughout the day.
Katie Hawley
Marketing Manager & Yoga Teacher
Katie set set up and established YogaBhoga in June 2014 and has been practicing yoga for over 10 years. She decided to become a Yoga Teacher shortly after the birth of her daughter Florence.
She wanted to have more work / life flexibility and to do something that she loved and as they say, the rest is history. She completed her Yoga Teacher Training (500hr) with the Devon School of Yoga whilst on maternity leave. She has been lucky enough to attend retreats and courses all over the world.
Katie was holistically trained which means she draws from many different styles. However her main style of teaching is Vinyasa Flow.
Katie has developed a passion for teaching and sharing knowledge (which is always growing – yoga is a never ending subject!) and aims for that to come across in her classes. She firmly believes that life is about balance and that yoga helps you find that balance.
Hannah Durdin
Content Officer & Forest School Leader
Hannah has worked for The Outdoors Group since 2017 both as a Forest School Leader and in the Business Services Team.
She firmly believes in the importance of community, connection with the natural world and making sure we all recognise what our bodies and souls are craving and finding time to meet those needs.
As a Forest School Leader she tries to encourage those she works with to find their own way to connect with nature and to benefit from spending time outdoors. She uses her nurturing skills gained through being a doula and breastfeeding peer supporter to try and support people in whatever way they may need whilst in the woods. Hannah aims to hold a space that enables people to relax, feel safe to unwind and enjoy themselves.
