The Forest School Kindergarten

Looking for a new home!

Thank you for your interest in The Forest School Kindergarten.

After sadly having to close our original home in Shillingford in 2020, we were excited to have found a new site in Crediton for our Kindergarten and got busy making new plans.

Unfortunately, after a whirlwind of a project full of challenges and obstacles, it was with sadness that we had to make the decision to cease our plans to operate our early years provision from this site.

This decision was not an easy one to make and was influenced by a number of factors. Ultimately, we didn’t feel confident that we could meet the needs of our Kindy kids at this specific site to the highest standard possible.

We are now working hard to find a new suitable home for The Forest School Kindergarten and early years provision is still very much a top priority for all of us at The Outdoors Group.

The Dream

The Forest School Kindergarten will enable children to spend most of their time learning as nature intended. We embrace the seasons, learning through natural play in the outdoors…and on a few occasions, when the weather is wild we may even retreat to the cosy indoors!

We look at the world from a child’s perspective. We believe that children are the happiest when they are outdoors – gaining a sense of freedom to explore, to play and make friends in a welcoming, nurturing and positive environment.

We will use the outdoors as our classroom each and every day. We place outdoor learning and forest school at the heart of everything we do. Our Forest School ethos promotes multi-sensory child-led outdoor play, encouraging and stimulating curiosity, supporting development and children’s physical awareness of the world around them.

Our team believe that early education is not just about preparing children for school or home education, but about preparing them for life. Our focus is on building resilience, independence, self-confidence, nurturing creative and critical thinking and teamwork. We  will follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework which will enable us to accept government funded places.

Ofsted Report

Fabrianne and Rob headed up our previous Kindergarten in Shillingford and are so excited about getting back into the early years world in Crediton. They successfully achieved an Ofsted rating of Good with Outstanding in Personal, Social and Emotional Development – and all of this on a snow day in sub zero temperatures!
