Shevek Pring - South West Outdoors Group

Director & Manager of Intervention Services

Shevek is one of our founders and has been working in the outdoor education sector for many years as an instructor and team leader. He has been running residentials, day courses, accredited courses and expeditions for several years.

Tom Lowday - South West Outdoors Group

Director & Manager of Training Services

Tom is one of our founders. He studied FDg Environmental Education and since then has worked in land based industries promoting sustainable land management and conservation in both farming and forestry.

Arwen King - South West Outdoors Group

Company Secretary & Forest School Leader

From our very first open day in 2011, Arwen has been involved with us. After 18 years working for Devon County Council, she took the plunge and joined The Outdoors Group. Arwen is a qualified practitioner so you might meet her leading Wednesday’s toddler clubs. She is also company secretary and keeps everything running smoothly.

Nick Murphy - South West Outdoors Group

Manager, Exmouth Forest School

Nick is the Manager and Practitioner at Exmouth Forest School. Also known for his excellent ukulele and spoon carving skills, Nick works hard to bring magic into the forest for children and parents, encouraging them to get involved in activities and inspiring them to use their imaginations.

Chris White - South West Outdoors Group

Manager, Exeter Forest School

Chris is one of our founders and leads the activities and courses at Exeter Forest School. He has initiated and led courses for most age groups and also runs team building sessions. Chris has previously worked in nurseries and schools.

Debbie Miller
Manager, Okehampton Forest School

Over the years, Debbie’s been a Brownie Guide Leader, a play leader at local toddler groups and a governor of the local primary. She worked as a childminder for more than 22 years in Okehampton. Debbie’s currently doing her Forest School Leadership Training and it’s wonderful having her on board, looking after our newest site.

Emma Sheffield
Manager, Exeter Kindergarten

Emma, has over 7 years experience working with children, 6 of those in the outdoors. She is a Level 3 Forest School Leader and has a Level 3 Diploma for Children and Young People’s Work Force. In her spare time she can be found with her husband canoeing, hiking and generally adventuring in the great outdoors!

Fabrianne Rowell (Fab)
Assistant Manager, Exeter Kindergarten

Our Deputy Manager, Fabrianne, joined the team after falling in love with the Forest School way of life when her little one attended Kindergarten. She started by volunteering with us before going on to do her Level 3 Forest School Leader training. She holds a Cued Speech Level 1 qualification and is in the process of doing her Early Years Educator level 3.

Robert Cartwright
Childcare Assistant

A qualified teacher with a specialisation in Early Years, Rob is passionate about the concept that nature offers a classroom beyond the confines of four walls. As well as advocating and developing outdoor learning facilities during his time as a teacher he has also worked with Devon Wild life Trust as an Environmental Education Officer encouraging young people to become more passionate about ecology and our local wild spaces.

School Liaison

Melinda ran our first ever Toddler Clubs. She took time out to raise her little ones but has now rejoined us in the forest as our School Liaison. She has great fun with the children coming up with ideas for fun forest school days.

Mike Whale - Bubs
Mike Whale (Bubs)

After 26 years in the army, Bubs moved into further education and spent 14 years working at Exeter College. He wants to make young people feel good about themselves and show them that they can achieve, even if they’ve struggled in the past. Bubs works with our intervention team.

Frank James
Frank James

Frank has been working with young people for 23 years as a youth worker, teacher, residential social worker and therapist. Frank works 1-1 with students at forest school helping them to enjoy their surroundings, learn new skills and build meaningful relationships and strategies to assist them in their lives. Frank joined us at the beginning of 2017.

Hannah Durdin
Hannah Durdin
Administrative Assistant

Hannah has been coming to Forest School since its first days and has never looked back. She loves it so much she has recently ended up working for us in an administrative capacity, helping Arwen to oil the cogs behind the scenes (or screens as the case may be!).

Vickie Norris
Party Host

Vickie has a background in environmental science, forestry, and how being in the outdoors impacts on wellbeing. She qualified as a forest school leader in 2015 after volunteering and assisting at forest school sessions. She started working for The Outdoors Group in 2017, hosting birthday parties at our Exeter Forest School. She thoroughly enjoys spending time in the woods and meeting all the lovely children and their families.
