Activity days

Do you want to bring your class out to the woods for a day of woodland based activities?

We offer all sorts of activity days for local schools based on Forest School principles at one of our beautiful woodland sites.

We can tailor the sessions to any age group. Our focus is on learning through exploration and discovery outdoors. Here are some examples of themes we’ve explored with schools:

The Forest School experience
An insight into forest school: building dens, creativity, teamwork, exploring the woodland, games, campfires and child-led fun.

Team building day (with links to the curriculum if required)
Develop a sense of achievement within a team, bring attendees closer through activities that engage groups, encourage cooperation and a shared sense of fun through challenge.

Bushcraft survival day
For smaller groups who would like to develop more advanced skills: tool work, camp craft, fire lighting and survival skills, utilising the outdoors.

Themed days for younger groups
Focusing on favorite themes and linking this to fun creative activities. Stickman, The Gruffalo, We’re Going on a Bear Hunt and more. Crafts, treasure-hunts and discovery.

The above sessions are priced at £150 for a half day (9.30am-12.30pm) or £225 for a full day (9.30-3pm). Prices subject to VAT.

These are just some examples. For more information and to discuss your requirements please fill in the form at the bottom of the page, or email us on hello@outdoorsgroup.co.uk and we can talk through options and themes.

We promise schools;

Meet the School Outreach Team

Melinda Burge
Forest School Outreach Manager

Melinda manages the Schools Outreach for The Outdoors Group. She organises for Forest school sessions to happen within mainstream school settings, and day trips to our woodlands for those schools who want a little taster of Forest School fun. She used to work at Heatree Activity Centre before having her own kids and joined TOG to help see the Tree Tots toddler clubs begin! She loves to sew and to bike ride, and can often be found sneaking off to the fabric shop to find bike printed fabrics for her next creation.

Alistair Taylor
Forest School Leader

Ali has worked as a primary school teacher, specialising in Outdoor Education, for over 10 years. As a qualified Forest School instructor, he works as part of the Forest School Outreach team and also helps run the LBtC course with the adult training team. In his spare time Ali loves being outdoors, especially when it involves being on his kayak out at sea or walking and wild camping in Dartmoor.

Stacey Righton
Forest School Leader

Stacey has a background in art, she has many years experience of working with art and people of all ages and abilities in many different settings. So, in addition to learning how to light fires and use tools, her Forest School sessions often include lots of art and creativity. Stacey loves nothing better
than being outdoors with the smell of wood smoke, the sound of the birds and a whistling kettle. When she’s not in the woods she likes doing yoga, enjoys spending time with her family, exploring the Moors and walking their Border Collie dog, Murphy.

Our vision for schools is to provide...

For all Schools

To have access to outdoor education within their curriculum and opportunities to learn in outdoor spaces. We work with a range of schools to create this opportunity.

For all Students

We understand that students learn differently. That’s why we create bespoke sessions that are inclusive of students who may not thrive within a classroom setting.

For all Teachers

We establish a relationship with students and teachers within the schools we work with, to support their ongoing development and offer advice and outdoor education consultancy.
